In November 2022 a volunteer group of neighbors placed 36 blue planter barrels around NE Greenwood in order to slow traffic and make our streets safer for people walking, biking, and using a wheelchair or stroller. These blue, self-watering planter barrels are permitted by Seattle Department of Transportation and maintained by volunteers around the neighborhood.

By placing planter barrels at critical locations, the NE Greenwood Homezone is a low-cost and nimble solution to reducing cut-through traffic and speeding cars in residential areas while still allowing emergency, delivery, and service vehicles to use our streets.
